The Ethical Code

Maaf. Sejak akhir-akhir ini, saya banyak berfalsafah. Tapi, insyaAllah, itu bukan falsafah kosong. Ia adalah persoalan yang bersarang dalam dada, terluah supaya setiap orang berfikir sama.

Dalam satu kuliah di maktab, kami didedahkan kepada Kod Etika untuk guru/para pendidik. Sedikit-sebanyak berkisar pada nilai-nilai moral dalam masyarakat.

One question keeps on bugging me, ‘What makes something morally right or wrong?’

Orang kata, setiap profesyen ada kod etika masing-masing. So, what’s the ethical code of a muslim? The Quran, isn’t it?

I understand when the lecturer explained that certain behaviour is not appropriate to be shown to the children. This is because young children do not have the ability to make rational judgement. But, instantly, I remember our beloved Prophet, Muhammad S.A.W. Did Rasulullah S.A.W act differently in front of the children and in front of the other adults? No. He adhered to Allah’s commands every single time. He acted according to what Allah wants him to, till the end of his time. He followed the ‘Ethical Code’ of a muslim, no matter where, when and whom he was with.

Doing things for pleasure? So, what about being homosexual? They’re doing it for pleasure. If we want to debate this matter according to human’s own law, we’ll be flustered with all the questions about human rights. But, if we follow the Qur’an and learn the lesson behind the story of Lut, we know that sodomy is one of the great sins, and thus should be avoided.

Issues like the proper attire for teachers have also been discussed. The debate goes on whether teacher can wear miniskirts to teach. For muslims, do not view this matter from teaching ethiques point of view only. Take a bigger scope. Ask your own self; is it appropriate for a muslim to wear miniskirt in public? The funny thing is, there’s a crowd who thinks that hijab is an act of oppression against women. The guys always complain about necktie; but ironically, necktie is a compulsory. Oops! Some may argue that girls often complain about the heat and their baju kurung etc. But, let us ponder for a while. WHICH/WHOSE RULES SHOULD WE ADHERE TO IN THE FIRST PLACE? Human’s or Allah’s?
